Around the Campfire

October 2009

Hello friends, well another year in the High Country ! This was our 14th year and had a ton of fun. We started our trip this year in Lexington Va. http://www.lexingtonvirginia.com/

As a Civil War Buff it was quite interesting to see where Robert E. Lee & Stone Wall Jackson are buried along with General Jacksons home. Tons of history in the small Southern town. We also visited the Rebec winery which was quite tasty.

Then off to Boone and the high country http://www.visitboonenc.com/ which greeted us with 28 degree temps and snow !!  The following morning was really cool as the temps got into the 50's and the top of the mountains were snow covered. The weather was perfect after that and off to the trails we went. 14 years ago I hiked to the peak of Grand Father Mountain http://www.grandfather.com and wanted to see if at 50 I could still handle it. I'm happy to say I was, and being over a mile above sea level looking down at the Eagles was a wonderful experience. I encourage all of you if you haven't to make a trip out that way. I'm really into this hiking activity. If you know where any good trails I could explore please drop me a line.

I will have for ya next month so until then.....GO RVing!!
